Welcome to Cantigas
Cantigas Women's Choir recently celebrated its 15th anniversary season. The choir brings women of the community together to explore the rich tradition of women's singing and performs a broad spectrum of global music, both ancient and contemporary. The Cantigas Women's Choir advocates through song for those whose hearts need to be uplifted and whose voices need to be heard. Cantigas is a Hudson County-based choir that performs and rehearses regularly in Hoboken, NJ, with additional shows in Jersey City and sometimes even Manhattan.
In addition to performing for the inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, New Jersey, and on behalf of cancer survivors in Bayonne, New Jersey, Cantigas has performed for the Eastern Division of the American Choral Directors Association (in 2010) and works from composers including Leonardo San Juan, Paul Hennessee, Lillian Redl, and Wassim Ibrahim, whose "Damascus Breeze" premiered at Cantigas's spring 2015 concert. In the summer of 2016, a group of Cantigas traveled to Buenos Aires to sing with sister choir Coral Femenino de Caballito and Coral San Cirano.
Serving the community through Song...
With the intention to uplift, heal and inspire through the power of song, Cantigas hopes to foster a sense of community that crosses the boundaries of race, age, background and socio-economic status. We are committed to performing a broad spectrum of global music, both ancient and contemporary, to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
