Welcome to Cantigas
Cantigas Women's Choir recently celebrated its 14th anniversary season. The choir brings women of the community together to explore the rich tradition of women's singing and performs a broad spectrum of global music, both ancient and contemporary. The Cantigas Women's Choir advocates through song for those whose hearts need to be uplifted and whose voices need to be heard.
The group has performed for the inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, New Jersey, and on behalf of cancer survivors in Bayonne, New Jersey. In the winter of 2010, Cantigas traveled to Philadelphia to perform Wedding in Shiraz for the Eastern Division of the American Choral Directors Association. In May of 2010, the choir performed the North American premiere of Magnificat by Argentinian composer Leonardo San Juan, who traveled to the United States to conduct the concert. In June of 2012, Cantigas once again hosted Leonardo San Juan, along with members of his choir, Coral Femenino de Caballito, from Buenos Aires. Together with the UNIS Mothers Choir, Cantigas and CFC performed a celebration of Women's Voices at the United Nations International School. Cantigas appears regularly in Hoboken, NJ.
Serving the community through Song...
With the intention to uplift, heal and inspire through the power of song, Cantigas hopes to foster a sense of community that crosses the boundaries of race, age, background and socio-economic status. We are committed to performing a broad spectrum of global music, both ancient and contemporary, to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
